Now Bob, please promise not to tell too many people about our little "Lens Softness" corrections secret, OK ?. Ī truly amazing and historic moment in the history of photography, indeed. I had a funny feeling this Viewpoint would lead down this road - going to have to let that grudge go. It's been a few hours over two days now and I'm really liking it's ease (yet it's so fully featured) for getting such clean images back into LR.

Well, I must say this DXO 8 and LR are working out splendidly. I see the benefit of DXO for the landscape objectives already. Using LR with DXO as an alternate editor isn't the chore I remember from previous versions.

I've been drag/dropping from LR to the DXO app icon, and figured out how to import back again before understanding where the 'open output images with." came into play. Photos (I export as tiffs) now appear in the import dialogue box in LR with '-DXO' added to their name. Open DXO - browse to relevant LR folder with photos. Unfortunately you cannot 'round trip' from LR->DXO->LR like you can with some external editors. I have DxO OP8 and considering adding V/P but not sure if there are any benefits there other than a larger viewing panel?Īre there more features & functions.

ĭo you find it beneficial to have Viewpoint as well as DxO Optics Pro 8? But I suppose eventually I'll give it another look-see again - you've piqued my curiosity. Though I've been toying with giving DXO another try, just not sure I want to alter the comfortable workflow I have now, not sure it's worth it. I still hold a grudge of sorts against DXO, for copy protection frustrations I had through v2-4. With a raw file the conversion would be much smoother as DxO has the Olympus OM-D and 7-14 zoom lens in their data base.

Your camera seems to be well matched to your eye and the 7-14 zoom. I was missing the lever called "scale" in the "Keystoning/Horizon" panel. That may be from the difference in familiarity with both apps? I then went to my copy of DxO 8 and used the distortion controls provided with that program and was more successful. I tried it with my copy of Viewpoint but just couldn't get a good handle on the distortions. is there more than one recommended workflow practice? I'm curious what your workflow is with the two? I'm so comfortable with LR import with IPTC preset and renaming, and especially the round-trip process using external editor/plug-ins.

I'm not with my production computer for the rest of the week, but I just downloaded the trial DXO and am putting it through it's paces. I shoot at 3:2 by default and DXO brings back 4:3 which can also be handy. The results with the 12-35 and 7-14 I find incredibly good at automatic settings - I then export to LR. I dont happen to think it is a particularly brilliant RAW developer.ĭXO has automatic optical corrections with modules for the OMD matched with all lenses. I happen to like LR for all its added features - photo management (library), publishing and integration with Nik Apps as well as PS. I have ended up in the rather awkward position of being a hybrid DXO and LR user. However Photoshop is still easily used in the workflow, and as the premier pixel editor it is hard to igonore if you want optimum results.

I do own and am reasonably competent in the use of Camera Raw and Lighttroom and I find I'm using then less and less. They seem to encourage making an adjustment and going on to the next adjustments then returning back to the original adjustment etc. I've found that with raw developement the adobe products have become fiddly (?) in nature. I'll be looking forward to the arrival of my recently ordered Olympus 45mm f1.8 to see if it also benefits from using DxO ver 8x. The Olympus OM-D with its 12-50mm zoom and the Panasonic 20mm f1.7 prime so far seem to be perfect matches with DxO ver 8x. Other panels are equally competent and are successfully used with no hesitation when needed. The only other panels that I'll visit regularly and adjust (or not) are the Exposure Compensation, DxO Smart Lighting and Color Rendering panels. The adjustments are so smooth and quick that occasionally I'll turn them off to see if DxO is actually doing anything of value at all.

The Distortion,Noise,Vignetting,Chromatic abberation and DxO Lens Softness adjustments are optimal regardless of ISO settings. With DxO I use the "Optical Corrections" set to auto. I've been finding that since I shoot 100% raw files that if the camera/lens combination is available in the DxO database my workflow is quicker and more importantly produces a high quality product.
